Great article Aisling. Thank God he is gone. Never liked or trusted the guy from day one. Bought and paid for and a "yes" man through and through....(though not a real man in the truest sense of the word...)
"when you know, you know" yes Ryan Tubridy you knew alright, you knew exactly what you were doing, spreading fear to those who trusted you. Spreading lies for your paymasters! Your work here is done, You took the money and now you run! Did your Pfizer friends give you special drugs to help you sleep at night? I'm sure they are "safe and effective "
Gay Byrne WAS the Late Late Show. Even towards the end, when some of his sharpness had dulled, Gaybo was still streets ahead of everyone else, and not only on RTE.
In the 1960s and 70s, the Late Late was just about the best thing on television. In recent years I have watched clips of British US talk shows from the same era and I hold the same opinion about the Late Late as I did back then.
Gay Byrne was a natural showman who could have conquered the television firmament anywhere he chose. I for one am glad he chose to stay in Ireland.
